A letter from the ALSRA President, Peter Campbell.

The ALSRA would like to make public a final draft specification book that has been 12months in the making. At present there is discontent between NSW and QLD and the rest of the states on parity issues which some parties feel are not addressed in this book. I would personally like to apologise for the lack of communication and insight of direction that the ALSRA is generating, however because the committee is not in total agreement, it is hard to inform members of solid decisions that the committee is making for our sport. So for this I take full and personal responsibility. I had a more detailed press release written explaining our position however this was not agreed to either.

So maybe it’s best we told our membership and public warts and all what is going on. QLD and NSW are split on the rule book and the direction it should take due to a concern over parity and performance. They do however want to see Lightning Sprints as a whole group succeed and move ahead, they just don’t think we are taking the right path and would rather see things stay the way they were so they can maintain a competitive advantage with their cars. This position and line of thought I guess could still be seen as a positive. Right now we have a majority on a line of thought which is the rule book attached however a minority of committee members are not in agreement and are arguing and delaying moving forward.

Furthermore problems have come to light regarding the ALSRA constitution. Once again NSW and QLD did not agree with how the body should be run. On a positive note however we do have NASR providing their legal services to ratify the complications and return a stable constitution. This perhaps is one of the easier parts of our dramas to fix. Once again the majority agree with a voting platform that is done on a state to state basis where each state gets either one or 2 votes for amendments etc. This model is used by Sprintcars, formula 500’s and other classes of speedway at present. The alternate model is to give each and every individual member a vote, however the members have to be present to vote or via a proxy at the meeting. This is not the most logistically efficient method however it is favoured by NSW and QLD. IT may be possible to change the constitution to include “electronic means” but this has to be cleared and approved by the attorney general and there are no guarantees this will happen.

I thank everyone for their passion and opinions and assure you that as a committee we are working very hard to overcome our obstacles. I also personally guarantee you that in the future you WILL have a say on where your sport is headed. I ask that you read this rule book and think positively about the direction of your sport.

Peter Campbell
